The first flight of Jazeera Airways in 2021 has arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake on 24 February 2021.

The flight arrived from Kuwait to Colombo, connecting the passengers directly to Sri Lanka.

Jazeera Airways said Sri Lanka has shown its potential to serve as a resilient destination with strong safety and health measures.

Rohit Ramachandran, CEO Jazeera Airways said, “Despite the current global situation for the airline industry, we are launching our first new destination for the year to serve a resilient demand for travel, especially to destinations with strong safety and health measures. We are now able to serve the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait as well as tourists to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has also in place strict health and safety measures against the Covid-19 pandemic which travellers should abide by and confirm before travelling.”

Recently, Airports Council International (ACI) certified the BIA as a safe and hygienic airport recognising the commitment towards health and safety measures in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council Aviation Restart Task Force (CART) recommendations and in alignment with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines along with industry best practices.
