Suriya Resort to add banquet hall

The newly opened Suriya Luxury Resort, Waikkal, would re invest another Rs 400 million to add a 550 cover banquet hall and add more water bungalows to the property. This would bring up the total investment for the family owned hotel to over RS. 1.4 billion.

Deputy Chairman, Suriya Luxury Resorts (Pvt) Ltd, Nalin Suriyasena said that they would start construction of the banquet hall next May and would be completed by the end of the year. “We are hoping to start the building of the additional 20 Water Bungalows, a first for a beach hotel in Sri Lanka by end of the year. These would be ready by 2016 May.”

He said that Suriya Luxury Resort, Waikkal, which was opened late, last year has made a strong positive impact in both the local and foreign wedding market. “The main reason for this is the picturesque location where both the sea and the river meet. Due to this we also have many wedding couples using Suriya Luxury Resort, Waikkal, as a location for their wedding photography. In addition we have received numerous requests to have a large wedding hall which is a void for the area.”

He said that in addition they are also maintaining a high occupancy despite being a newly opened hotel and this has prompted the management headed by veteran hotelier Eric Suriyasena of Goldi Sands fame, to re invest.”

This is the reason they decided to build 20 additional Water Bungalows and increasing the total to 20.
