Cinnamon Air, Sri Lanka’s premier domestic airline kicked off its scheduled seasonal flights between Colombo and Nuwara Eliya’s Lake Gregory on 10 April. Holidaymakers travelling to Nuwara Eliya this season now have the chance to enjoy the cool climes of the hill country in less than half an hour!
Cinnamon Air is operating daily scheduled flights between 10 and 20 April using its Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian aircraft, carrying up to eight passengers in unmatched comfort and luxury. Passengers are treated to breath-taking vistas of the hill country from a unique vantage point in the sky. Take-offs and landings on the waters of Waters Edge, Sri Jayewardenepura and Lake Gregory make for an exciting and unique experience, offered only by Cinnamon Air.
“A smooth flight with a courteous and very accommodating crew; 25 minute journey by air, compared to six hours by road,” remarked Amãna Takaful Chairman Tyeab Akbarally after flying from Waters Edge to Nuwara Eliya on the inaugural flight.
Commenting on the seasonal flights, Cinnamon Air Director Romesh David mentioned, “Spending just one night or two in Nuwara Eliya during the season is now a very viable option, with Cinnamon Air flying you there in less than half an hour. Enduring an exhausting six hour road journey this season is no longer an option worth considering for those pressed for time.”
The daily scheduled seasonal flights depart BIA at 9 a.m. and from Waters Edge at 9:30 a.m., with the return flight from Nuwara Eliya departing at 10:40 a.m. to Waters Edge and then to BIA. The regular one way fare from BIA or Waters Edge to Nuwara Eliya or vice versa is priced at US$ 153 + taxes. Tickets are available for purchase through all travel agents, SriLankan Airlines ticket offices and via the Airline’s website, www.cinnamonair.com.
All Cinnamon Air scheduled flights operate in code share with SriLankan Airlines, consequent to which they are also available for sale throughout the SriLankan Airlines network and all Travel Agents around the world via Global Distribution Systems, under a ‘UL’ designated flight number. The introduction of this flight would provide all SriLankan Airlines passengers with the option of a useful and important extension of travel options within Sri Lanka during the popular Nuwara Eliya Season, at the time of purchasing their international travel.
Cinnamon Air, owned and operated by Saffron Aviation Limited, is a joint venture between Sri Lanka’s largest listed conglomerate, John Keells Holdings, MMBL Leisure Holdings (a part of the Mercantile Merchant Bank Group) and Phoenix Ventures (parent of the Brandix Group, Sri Lanka’s largest garment manufacturer). The Airline operates a fleet of two Cessna 208 amphibian aircraft and one Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft, with scheduled services to key inland points in Sri Lanka. Cinnamon Air also offers charter services to and between all Airports and Water Aerodromes in Sri Lanka. The Airline is based out of Katunayake where it operates a dedicated domestic terminal (within the precincts of the BIA) and also has its own purpose built hangar and maintenance facilities.
