They have appointed Peter Kuruvita, the award-winning chef and restaurateur from Sydney, as their culinary consultant. Peter is revamping menus at Cape Weligama to create special experiences for each location in the resort. The taster sessions have been most promising!

An “Ayurveda Taster” program starts end August with Cape Weligama’s neighbours on the beach, Barberyn resort. This long established family business is globally reputed. Ayurveda is one of the oldest forms of medical science, originating 5000 years ago. Guests choose three, five or seven day programs, staying at Cape Weligama and walking across to Barberyn for a daily Ayurvedic program.

They have developed a signature Cape Weligama whale watching experience, a cut above the rest. From December they will deploy a large, comfortable catamaran for an exclusive 7-hour whale watching exploration. Apart from the whales, guests go snorkelling, boogie boarding, stand-up paddle boarding and have a gourmet packed lunch in a secluded cove.

Tea Trails Summerville bungalow is undergoing a major renovation which will also add one more Garden Suite. Summerville will reopen in October after which Norwood will undergo a soft refurbishment. Tientsin Bungalow’s major renovation will follow early next year. They are also adding walk in showers in all rooms.

They have a nice new 12 seater electric boat on the Castlereagh lake at Tea Trails that will ferry guests between bungalows and offer sundowner and fishing cruises. Guests to Castlereagh and Dunkeld will be dropped off at Summerville and be ferried by boat for the last leg. Saving 30 minutes on the estate roads is a bonus! The boat is named Ariel after the famous 19th century tea clipper, she’s not as fast though..

Wild Coast Tented Lodge, Yala is coming together nicely from a design point of view although behind schedule, no surprise there! They expect to open a lovely beachside tented lodge around May 2017 together with a conservation station focusing on the Sri Lankan leopard.
