Competing against large international chain hotels such as Club Med, Centara and Banyan Tree, Mermaid Hotel & Club was placed at number fourth in the Top 10 All Inclusive Hotels in Asia, moving up from number six. Mermaid is also rated as the number one hotel in Kalutara out of eight hotels, with over 1000 unbiased traveller reviewers.

Since its inception in 1983 Mermaid has always set the standard for three-star resort hotels in Sri Lanka. With regular refurbishments and modern updates, the hotel has kept pace competing with its international peers. The hotel undergoes a detailed refurbishment every five to six years with regular soft refurbishments in between to meet the demands of today’s traveller.
The most recent soft refurbishment was carried out in 2014. A major refurbishment is commissioned for 2016 where guest rooms will be completely revamped with larger bedrooms, larger bathrooms with a completely new look and feel to increase guest comfort levels.
