The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in collaboration with the Kandy Regional Hoteliers Association under THASL organised a MICE/tourism training program for hoteliers in the Kandy region on Tuesday 10 September at Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Kandy.

The Sri Lankan Convention Bureau, a Government body, functions under the Ministry of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs; its mandate is to promote Sri Lanka as a destination for international MICE events (Meetings/Incentive Travel/Conferences/Exhibitions).

In line with the objectives of SLCB, organises regional MICE/tourism training programs to improve the professionalism of service providers involved in MICE tourism activities.  Over 45 professionals took part in the training program which was conducted by a panel of experts in various aspects of MICE.

The program was organised under the theme ‘Effective way of Planning, Organising and Handling of Business Events’ and included presentations of three key speakers, group exercises and team building activities.

SLCB General Manager Krishantha Fernando delivered the opening remarks and the training was led by three SLAPCEO experts, namely, Pady Paul, Ziyan Ameen and Gihan De Silva.

Aitken Spence Travels Ltd. Deputy General Manager Ameen conducted a session on tourism and MICE tourism – global and local perspective and preparedness of Kandy hotels to capture the global MICE industry and best practices in the MICE industry.  Golden Isle Travels Ltd. Managing Director Paul delivered a presentation/session on basics of handling MICE events/expectations of MICE organisers – the incentives – basics (who, what, why, how).

The session covered how best hoteliers could develop an incentive programs to develop the incentive travel sector.

MICE.lk Ltd. CEO De Silva conducted an interactive, team building session on creating MICE experiences. The session included an interactive way to energise and time-sensitive team building activities.
