Asia is beautiful year-round. But in March, the sun-dappled landscape welcomes a kaleidoscope of events that add to the charm of spring. New on the radar this season is the Eastern & Oriental Express journey through Asia, which is making a comeback this February, along with folk festivals, a Taylor Swift concert and cultural fairs across Asia, from South Korea to Nepal. And while crowds thin in Sri Lanka giving way to empty beaches around this time, Japan welcomes a cheerful bustle as streets are packed with people admiring its cherry blossoms. It’s all only a little over a month away, so we rounded up the most exciting places to visit in Asia this March:
Sri Lanka
The country, now bouncing back from last year’s economic hardships, is fronting an array of new openings as well as cultural events to entice tourists. Stay at properties such as Galle Fort’s newest art deco hotel The Charleston, which opened in December last year. Charlie’s, the in-house bar, is the newest addition to Sri Lanka’s bar landscape. Those interested in food and drink should also check out Gourmet Galle (12 January – 31 March), a new food festival spotlighting 12 chefs at 12 venues such as beaches across the country. The region’s Yala National Park will have two new pads as well–Hilton Yala Resort and Kotiyagala Luxury Villas–to explore wildlife from.
