World Tourism Day 2020: WHO rep at SL Tourism Leaders’ Summit

World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative to Sri Lanka Dr. Razia Pendse will be present at the Tourism Leaders’ Summit (TLS) 2020 as a member of a panel to discuss the importance of preserving Sri Lankan ‘true hospitality’ in the midst of adhering to compulsory COVID-19 health guidelines which need to be followed by tourists once the country is open to them once more.

The Tourism Leaders’ Summit 2020 will be held on 27 September at the Kandy City Centre, to celebrate ‘World Tourism Day’ which falls on that day.

Dr. Pendse will speak on the theme ‘Together towards resilience- responsible-sustainable Sri Lanka Tourism, the sources revealed.

The invitation to Dr. Pendse to be one of the panelists for the Summit was presented to her recently at WHO Sri Lanka by the Tourism Leaders’ Summit organising committee, an academic body of Sri Lanka Tourism, University of Colombo Tourism Study Programmes.

Founding Coordinator of the Tourism Study Programmes of the University of Colombo Prof. D.A.C Suranga Silva, President of the Alumni Association of Tourism Economics and Hospitality Management (ATEHM) Major General Nimal Krishnaratne, ATEHM General Secretary Kasun Abeynayaka and the Director- Cooperate Relations and Human Resource Management for International Tourism Leaders’ Summit and Tourism Research Conference Lashika Vithanage were present at the event.

Parallel to the Leaders’ Summit, a Tourism Research Conference is also to take place under the coordination of the University of Colombo Tourism Study Programmes. Additionally, many more events including a tea culinary event, an exhibition showcasing local tourism products etc. are being planned to celebrate World Tourism Day this year in Kandy from 25 to 27 September  in collaboration with the Department of Tourism in the Central Province, Ceylon FT learns.
