Cabinet grants host of relief to restore tourism industry

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the Cabinet has decided to provide relief to the tourism industry.

The Prime Minister made this statement during a discussion with the stakeholders in the sector yesterday. The discussion focused on the problems faced by the tourism and hotel industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the revival of the sector.

The discussion focused on the steps to be taken in opening the country for foreign tourists and for setting up a fund to strengthen the industry. It was also decided to provide the necessary facilities to the local tourists.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa has instructed to retain the Tourist Visa Fees at the US $ 35 limit.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the opening of the national parks should be done in a manner that would not harm the environment and the animals.

Minister of Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga, Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath and several officials from the tourism sector also participated in the discussion.
