Minor Hotels’ Green Growth 2050 Platinum Certification expands with new additions in Sri Lanka and Africa

Minor Hotels, a prominent global player in hospitality, has reached a remarkable milestone in its sustainability journey, with 30 of its properties now proudly holding the Green Growth 2050 Platinum certification. This achievement reflects the company’s steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility across its operations in 56 countries.

Since March 2024, the Bangkok-headquartered group has expanded its portfolio of Platinum-certified hotels, with 10 new additions. Noteworthy among these are the Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort in Sri Lanka and Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas, which mark Minor Hotels’ first-ever Platinum certifications in Sri Lanka and Africa, respectively.

A Sustainable Haven in Sri Lanka

Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort has embraced a variety of eco-friendly practices that highlight its dedication to sustainability. The resort has transformed nearly 90,000 square meters of land into a chemical-free zone, providing safe habitats for sensitive species like dragonflies, frogs, and various bird species as part of its biodiversity conservation efforts.

Additionally, the resort has forged key wildlife partnerships, including with Sri Lanka’s Department of Wildlife Conservation to establish the Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary. This initiative has led to the successful protection of over 11,000 baby turtles. In their ongoing reforestation projects, the resort has restored more than 50% of the surrounding mangrove area with native plants, significantly enriching the local ecosystem.

“Achieving Platinum is a testament to our team’s relentless efforts in environmental conservation since our inception in 2015,” said Erik Billgren, General Manager at Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle. “Sri Lanka is home to a wealth of natural wonders, and we are proud to implement initiatives that play a part in protecting its native ecosystems and offering meaningful experiences to our guests.”
