Unveiled by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in June of this year, the resort is already picking its numbers with guests from all over the country as well as abroad. A weekend getaway to the lovely place gave us a firsthand experience as to what this place has to offer its guests.

As you walk in, you are greeted by the smiles of the staff and of course the amazing view of a serene ocean and gold sand that wait to take your worries away. After a refreshing welcome drink, we were ushered into our rooms. Altogether you get 96 rooms that are divided in to five categories – Superior, Deluxe, Junior suites, Royal and Presidential.

All the rooms have the view of ocean and some of the rooms located on the ground floor have direct access to the pool from their room. Looking at the rooms individually we start off with the Superior rooms. There are 50 of them and each of them giving the right comfort to its guest. It’s fully air-conditioned with King size or Twin beds, flat screen TV with satellite channels, Walk-in shower, the basic amenities and of course a mini bar to go crazy.

The Deluxe Rooms have the special deal for its guests and that is the Jacuzzi tub in your bathroom that is just too romantic for the honeymooners and couples wanting a getaway. You can open your sliding doors from the bathroom and enjoy the view of the ocean. And once you get in the tub, get it all bubbly and turn on those lights too, you will want to just wait in the tub and not get out of it. It is too irresistible.

Moving on to the Two Junior Suites, guests can enjoy this as a private home away from home setting. With a living area, space to throw back and just enjoy the peaceful calmness of the ocean and waves crashing in, guests are sure to be pampered well before they get back into the real world.

The Presidential Suite is the biggest suite you can find with 2500sq feet of space and of course the plunge pool which is located on the balcony. With this pool just outside with an infinity view of the ocean and your surroundings, you will not have to worry about pool rule time as it’s all just for you! This suite has two rooms which make it ideal for people with big families or group of friends wanting to have some crazy fun.

One thing I must add is that when you get into the bed, you just sink into relaxation and maybe deep sleep because I am sure the bed knows you deserve it.

Hopping down to the lobby, we are then taken to their 150 feet in length pool giving plenty of shade and room for the tanners who can’t get enough of the sun. Guests have the choice of either chilling out in the pool, by the pool or just go catch some waves or more sun on the beach.

Been by the ocean always gets our tummy rumbling and the F&B team of Pandanus Beach Resort & Spa are trained to give the very best to their guests. The Main Restaurant dishes out everything from a Western cuisine to Sri Lankan cuisine to give the foreign guests a taste of authentic Sri Lankan. There are also certain Theme Nights to make the nights a little spicier along with some entertainment by bands. If you are not in the mood to have something big, you can always check out their Rooftop Bar which has a panorama view of the beach. Hear you can sip some of their best wines, cocktails or mocktails and have something simple while enjoying the sunset too.

There is also the private dining facility where guest can be on the deck located on the beach or for a more very intimate affair cozy up in a private cabana under the stars.

The hotel has a lot to offer its guests other than comforts in the room and restaurants. Guests have the chance to get totally relaxed by a professional masseuse in the Pandanus Wellness Spa which is equipped with separate treatment rooms and a variety of the latest spa treatments. If you prefer to relax the hard way, then hitting the state of the art gym equipped with all the latest American equipment would be right up your alley.

Where ever you go, you know your journey is never complete if there is no shopping involved. Their mini Shopping Arcade features a gem and jewellery store with semi-precious stones cut into beautiful pieces by trained local artisans. Then there is also the Tea Shop where guests can take back home the true tastes of Sri Lankan tea or a special memento made by local craftsmen and women from the Souvenir Shop.

If you are travelling with children then keeping them occupied is also very important and you can always push them to a game of table tennis, beach volleyball or some pool maybe yoga, water polo or water aerobics. Then there is also the exciting adventures such as a guided trip to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery or discover the thrill of whale watching in Mirissa.

For corporate events, Pandanus has a meeting room that can accommodate around 50 people and provide them with all the necessary equipments. Future plans include adding a few more Superior rooms and few other things in the pipeline to give guests something more and new to experience at this one of a kind resort.
