The Galle Face Hotel (GFH), widely acclaimed as the country’s finest heritage hotel, last week unveiled the first of the new products it is offering on the property now undergoing an extensive USD 25 million restoration due for completion early next year.
GFH has invested USD 450,000 in converting what used to be the shopping mall in the south wing of the hotel into a new meeting and conference centre comprising seven conference rooms, library and two study rooms which are clearly the best available in the city today.
The facility is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment offering a range of multimedia options. GFH’s Group General Manager, Tony Fleming, said that the new meeting and conference centre now open for business adds a new dimension to the hotel’s unique history.
“As the country gears to become a preferred destination for MICE tourism, and local and regional businesses plan for success, the Galle Face Hotel is ready to act as the preferred partner. Centrally located in the business capital of the country, Galle Face Hotel is close to the central business district and has easy access to the nightclubs, pubs, bars and restaurants for those who wish to ‘net work or team build’ after a day’s meeting,” he said.
Although the shopping mall on the first floor of the south wing had been viable, GFH’s senior management believes that converting that space into the new meeting and conference facility, maximizing the advantages of the stunning sea view the location offers, would serve the hotel better as attracting conferences and conventions there would also help room sales.
The new facility will serve small and medium events and also host seminars and conferences. Board meetings, corporate presentations and similar events will be enhanced by the luxurious facilities available with a delectable food and beverage backup and the many other facilities on offer at a top class hotel.
The extensive rebuilding and refurbishing of the north wing of the hotel due for completion early next year will provide underground and aboveground parking up to 125 vehicles overcoming a long-felt constraint in a location that has been the most popular for weddings in Colombo.
