- Year-to-date arrivals reach 1.03 m
Sri Lanka Tourism has registered a total of 21,298 tourist arrivals in the first four days of July, pushing the year-to-date (YTD) total to 1.03 million visitors.
The industry analysts opined the consistent growth in visitor numbers signals a positive outlook for the industry.
From 1 to 4 July, key source markets include India (5,245), the UK (1,741), China (1,422), Australia (1,253), and Germany (878), the latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed.
The SLTDA anticipates 220,599 tourists for the month of July. However, the country has consistently fallen short of its monthly targets from January to June 2024, missing the marks by 13.9%, 8.4%, 11.4%, 18.5%, 14.4% and 31% respectively.
India remains the top source market with a cumulative total of 189,713 arrivals year-to-date, followed by Russia with 114,631 and the UK with 91,093.
Sri Lanka Tourism has set an ambitious goal for 2024, aiming to attract 2.3 million tourists and generate over $ 4 billion in revenue.
