Lotus Tower Nearing Completion: TRCSL

More than 95 per cent of the Lotus Tower has been completed, the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) said yesterday. An official from TRCSL said the prevalent adverse weather condition hampered construction work scheduled around the tower, but internal finishes would be engineered as planned.

A committee was appointed to set up the tender process to allocate communication units at the Lotus Tower earlier this year. Initial reports stated that facilities would be provided for 50 television service providers, 50 broadcast service providers and 10 communication providers.

The building — constructed at the expense of USD 104 million with 80 per cent of the cost borne by the EXIM Bank of China — sits on a 10-acre land and will be a communication hotspot once constructed. It will house a telecommunication museum, restaurant, supermarkets, food courts, conference halls with seating for 400 people, a 1000-seat auditorium, luxury hotel rooms, ballrooms and an observation gallery. It was initially expected to be completed by October 2017.

A theme park, shopping mall and vehicle park will be constructed under the second phase of the project.
