Sri Lanka Convention Bureau says visit of Shreya Ghoshal boost for tourism

The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau says the visit of Bollywood songstress Shreya Ghoshal for a performance tomorrow is timely and a big boost to woo more Indian tourists.

“Her (Shreya) visit to Sri Lanka is timely where India has become the biggest tourism and MICE tourism market for Sri Lanka. Visit of such a rare personality would obviously give a boost to the host country,” SLCB said. “We are looking forward to this historic moment when she gets on stage live in front of Sri Lankan audience – thousands of them, and millions who would watch that performance on TV later,” SLCB added. Sri Lanka Tourism is one of the sponsors of her visit. Considered the most popular female singer in India Shreya Ghoshal will be performing live at Havelock Grounds on 28 Saturday at 7 p.m. Her popularity has widened beyond India across the globe where most number of the Indians live.
Given the importance of her visit SLCB will also have a press conference tomorrow with Shreya Ghoshal.

Shreya Ghoshal is undoubtedly number one playback singer in India with nearly 30 million likes on her Facebook. She is the fifth most ‘liked’ Indian personality on Facebook after YoYo Honey Singh, Narendra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar and Deepika Padukone.

Shreya Ghoshal who just turned 31, sings in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil , Telugu and in other languages viz Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi etc. She has received uncountable awards which include four National Film Awards, three State Film Awards, five Film fare Awards and seven Filmfare Awards in the South.

She moved from Rawatbhata to Mumbai where she studied at the Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. She withdrew science studies to take up arts with English as her major having realized her skills were drifting towards Music. Her breakthrough came with the release of Devdas after director Sanjay LeelaBhansali chose her, having had difficulty to locate her following the reality show,!!!. Her songs “Silsila Ye ChaahatKa”, “BairiPiya” and “Dola Re Dola” in that movie were hits in Sri Lanka.

Devdas enabled Shreya to achieve national fame with the help of many awards. She then sang for many Hindi movies, some of which became very popular in srilanka. Parineeha, Jism, Khakee, Main Hoon Na, Dhoom, Paheli are to mention some. Shreya’s “”YehIshqHaaye” cut across Sri Lanka apart from her winning a national award for Best Female Playback Singer. After this, Ghoshal sang for many films like Om Shanti Om, AajaNachle, and specially Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which caught Sri Lankan hearts. The current most popular song of her in Sri Lanka is Sun Raha Hai Na Tu in Aashiqui 2. She moved onto outdoor performance and so far conducted stage shows in London, Leicester, Chicago, New Jersey, Toronto, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Florida, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. Texas, California, Guyana etc. Australia New Zealand, Mauritius and Sharjah. Shreya is right at the pinnacle of her career and perhaps her ability for voice manipulations will contribute largely to make most western classical music lovers to embrace oriental Music which has the ability to smoothen and settle hearts and minds from the intricacies of the selfish and rush world.
