Both bungalows located on two separate but adjacent properties, overlook the deserted beach over private grassy gardens. The main house which has three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, comes equipped with a kitchen, a dining area and sitting area. Of course, it is only a matter of time before the veranda overlooking the lush green garden and ocean becomes the most preferred spot of the entire villa – perfect for lengthy board games, BBQs or just plain relaxing to the sounds of the breaking waves beyond. The second house has two bedrooms with a single shared bathroom.
Guests can book one or both of the beach houses and are required to bring their own provisions for meals, which are prepared by the friendly staff – a married couple, who are obliging and courteous. The area is popular for swimming, body boarding, surfing, snorkelling and bird watching. Another activity that can be done a few minutes away from Lands End is whale watching in Mirissa (20 minutes’ drive). Food prepared by the couple is of exceptional standard – oozing the simple charm of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. There is also a facility for BBQs. The rooms are clean and well kept, with the couple making sure they clean the villas in a non-intrusive and efficient way. Lands End Matara was a rare and precious find, and we’ll definitely be going back.
