After a concerted effort led by SLAITO and partner associations, the much-anticipated Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system is back online, reinstating a smooth visa process for international tourists. The legal battle, supported by key stakeholders, culminated in a successful resolution, ensuring tourists can once again apply for the 30-day visa via the familiar ETA platform. The standard visa fee remains US$ 50 for most countries, with free visas offered to nationals from China, India, and other specified nations.

Additionally, tourists from Singapore, the Maldives, and several others are exempt from visa
requirements. This restoration marks a significant boost to Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting the industry and making travel more accessible. Minor technical issues are being addressed with the help of Mobitel, and updates will be provided as improvements are rolled out.
