Latest Update on COVID-19 – Sri Lanka

  • Currently there have been no deaths resulting from COVID-19.
  • The first Sri Lankan patient infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus in the country has been identified on the 10th March 2020 and now been quarantined at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda, Sri Lanka. He is a freelance Italian speaking chauffeur guide.
  • Earlier a 43 year old Chinese tourist was found to be infected with the COVID-19
    coronavirus upon her arrival and admitted to the IDH reporting the first case in Sri
    Lanka. The woman fully recovered from the infection and returned to China on 19th  February 2020.

Sri Lankan Government has announced several measures in recent weeks to stop the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus in the country.

  • Suspension of on-arrival visa facility for foreigners arriving in Sri Lanka until further notice except for citizens of Singapore and the Maldives.
  • All foreign nationals arriving in the country have to apply for prior visas.
  • The Government also took steps to immediately stop allowing passengers on Cruise
    Ships arriving at the ports of the Country to disembark.
  • The 14 days of quarantine process is compulsory for both the Sri Lankans
    and the foreigners arriving in the country from Italy, South Korea and
    Iran.
  • Twelve hospitals around the country have been identified as treatment centers for
    those patients who may have been exposed to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Tourist Vehicles

  • All areas that a guest may touch with their hands are cleaned more regularly with an anti-viral cleaning fluid.
  • Availability of alcohol-based hand sanitizing gel in all tourist vehicles.
  • A record of each time the vehicle is kept clean.
  • All local health authority guidance must also be followed;

Precautionary Measures inside Office

We at Aitken Spence Travels have taken steps to allow visitors only with prior
appointment obtained from the Management.

  • Staff has instructed not to shake -hands or hug the visitors / clients. They can greet
    the clients in the Sri Lankan way saying “Ayubowan”.
  • All staff are provided with face masks and access to hand sanitizers, instructed to wash their hands regularly.
  • All staff are requested to clean their work station i.e. chair, table and the handles of the doors, drawers to ensure the personal cleanliness.
  • In case of an emergency the company is geared to operate from a remote location and also staff are permitted to work from homes if required.
