The foundation stone was laid for the Tourist Information Centre at Lagoon Park in Eravur in the Battcaloa district recently, at a cost of Rs. 100 million.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Tourism Promotion and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga, City Planning, Water Supply and Drainage Minister and SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Deputy Minister Faizal Cassim, Eastern Province Chief Minister Hafis Nazeer Ahamed, Health Indigenous Medicine, Probation & Childcare, Social Welfare and Rural Electrification Minister A.L.M. Nazeer, Eastern Province Agriculture Minister K.Thurairasasingham, Eastern Provincial Council Chairman Chandradasa Galapathy, Eastern Province Tourism Board Director Sarjoon Aboobacker and Provincial Councilors.

Minister John Amaratunga unveiled the plaque for the Tourist Information Centre. Tourism sector officials, departmental heads and other officials participated at the ceremony.
