Colombo Fort Hotels Limited has re-branded Weligama Bay Beach as Fisherman’s Bay Weligama. The hotel would also be investing to convert the hotel into a four star. M. R. Hassan, Director Corporate/Marketing, Colombo Fort Hotels speaking to Daily News Business said that they are currently upgrading the rooms and other areas to meet the four star standards he said. He said that the hotel would be totally ready by the end of the year.
The group which also own and operate Sigiriya Village, The Palms, Beruwala and Club Palm Bay, Marawila in the last two years have invested to upgrade rooms and other facilities in the hotels as well.
Commenting on the overall hotel group he said that on average all the three hotels maintained around 45% occupancy and this year they hope to increase this to over 60%. “We have also seen a gradual increase in occupancy and this is due to our focus in international marketing.”
He said that they have also concentrated on the Chinese maket and this too has proved very productive as they see an influx of Chinese arrivals. Commenting on Club Palm Bay he said that they have also added 20 rooms to meet increasing demands. “We also have a large MICE facility that could accommodate over 400 guests.” He said that in a bid to give additional recreation facilities they have decided to introduce world class animation to Club Palm Bay. “We are currently negotiating with a team from Turkey in this regard.”
The Sigiriya Village too was completely refurbished and 40 standard rooms will now be classified as Classic rooms. The rooms have been made larger, the washrooms expanded and decor improved.
