Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo hosts tourism promotion event for Japanese media

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, organised a remarkable tourism promotion event for Japanese media personnel at the Ambassador’s official residence. The objectives of the event were to seek the support of print and electronic media as well as social media influencers to educate Japanese travellers, travel agents, and tour operators on the unique characteristics of Sri Lanka and to encourage them to project as their next overseas travel destination. The event, attended by over 40 guests, including journalists from mainstream media and social media influencers, was a resounding success in conveying the positive message that Sri Lanka is open and ready to welcome Japanese tourists.

The event commenced with the singing of the Sri Lanka national anthem by a popular Japanese artist, followed by traditional Sri Lankan dancing showcasing rhythmic movements and colourful costumes. Guests were then presented with attractive promotional videos that encapsulated the landscapes, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and unique cultural expeditions Sri Lanka has to offer.

Furthermore, several captivating presentations were delivered by representatives from Japanese outbound travel professionals, providing valuable insights into the countless attractions and activities that await Japanese tourists. Sri Lanka Airlines’ Tokyo office introduced travel packages specifically for Japanese clients, promoting its services, amenities, and other features as the fourth direct weekly frequency between Tokyo and Colombo is to commence shortly.

During his address, Ambassador E. Rodney M. Perera expressed his gratitude to the participants and warmly invited all media personnel to carry the message of Sri Lanka’s open doors to Japanese visitors, encouraging them to experience the island’s unmatched beauty, warm hospitality, and appealing cultural heritage. A brief interactive session also followed.

At the outset, to quench their thirst, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy refreshing King Coconut water, renowned for its hydrating properties and delightful taste. After the detailed presentations, guests were treated to an array of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, including flavourful curries, aromatic spices, and delectable desserts. Additionally, specially crafted Sri Lankan cocktails were served, featuring unique flavours inspired by the country’s exotic ingredients.
