Switzerland, Bahrain and Croatia hold talks with Ceylon Chamber for commercial ties

Envoys of Switzerland, Bahrain and Croatia held discussions with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently t o find out ways and means of exploring trade, tourism and investment opportunities between Sri Lanka and those countries.

The first to arrive at the chamber was Amir Muhareni, the Croatian envoy for most of the South Asian countries, including Sri Lanka.

During his meeting with the local business community held at the chamber premises, Muhareni emphasized on the 500 million strong EU market, which Sri Lanka can focus via Croatia.

He invited the Sri Lankan companies to build partnerships or joint ventures with the Croatian firms covering multiple of sectors, in order to tap the EU market.

Former Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Thilak De Soyza, who is also the Honorary Consular for Croatia in Sri Lanka, chaired this meeting.

Meanwhile, Bahrain Deputy Envoy for Sri Lanka Maram Al-Saleh, during her meeting held with Ceylon Chamber of Commerce CEO/Secretary General Mangala P.B. Yapa, expressed i nterest t o find out potential opportunities existing in the country.

In response, Yapa said that both parties should work together and identify a list of potential working areas in order to move forward.

Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka and Maldives Heinz Walker Nedekoorn during his discussions with t he chamber said that the European nation is willing to play an increasing role in Sri Lanka’s commercial sector. He said, Swiss investors are waiting to arrive in the island but is holding back until the current political situation settles down.

Ceylon Chamber Senior Assistant Secretary General Lilakshini De Mel also took part in the above meetings, while the meetings ended up with follow up action decided on.
