The European Union Delegation to Sri Lanka, through a social multi-sport/recreational activity event (a “Biothlon”) is planning to raise awareness about integrated approaches across EU initiatives that are promoting community-based sustainable tourism while protecting the biodiversity and mitigating the impact of climate change.
G360 has partnered with Kitesurfing Lanka to design and execute the Biothon in collaboration with EU’s partner organizations ACTED and GIZ and make it not just a sporting event but a transformative experience for participants, onlookers, workers and communities.
Five types of sports will be included in the Biothlon – Swimming, Cycling, Running, Kitesurfing and Kayaking. The event will take place in Kalpitiya. The sports segments will be combined with observations, visits and discussions on environmental degradation and environmental regeneration. The event will be conducted on a non-competitive/non-race basis.
Not forgetting the future generation, the event will involve children from 5 schools in the Kalpitiya area harnessing their creativity in an effort to encourage them to pursue the message of the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The event will adopt the ‘Leave no trace, zero waste’ concept.
Participation is by invitation only.
