The Chairman Amagi Group, S. Ganeshanathan said that they are hoping to invest around Rs. 300 million for this and construction is already in progress.
“We see a demand for more up market clientele and this is the reason we decided to add four Suites in the roof top area.”
He said that in addition they would also introduce additional water sports activities in the lagoon area and have more night entertainment to keep the guest for at least three nights.”
Currently the group offers 21 rooms at Amagi Lagoon Resort and Spa and also has a 26 rooms property in Amagi Beach Marawila.
A former international Chef and the leading fish exporter to the Maldives, Ganeshanathan, said that they are also looking at expanding the Amagi foot print to the cultural triangle and is looking for a suitable property.
“We want to add 100 rooms to make to increase our room inventory to around 200.”
He recalled that Amagi Lagoon Resort and Spa was opened three years ago after purchasing a guest house and converting it to a four star hotel. Total investment was Rs. 400 million.
He said that the hotel with the lagoon frontage and water sports activities which include a luxury speed boat and floating restaurant resembles a Maldivian resort hotel.
“This together with super luxury facilities makes Amagi Lagoon Resort and Spa a highly sought after hotel.”
CEO of the two hotels, M. U. Lantra said that they maintained 84% occupancy last year and hope to end the year averaging 68%.
“The hotel is now making operating profits and we are awaiting a new banquet and MICE markets in the future through the large 350 cover facility.”
Lantra who covers over 35 years experience in the hotel trade including over 10 years in leading Hotel chains said that it was east to work for a single owner since decision making is easier and quicker.
Commenting on their market he said that it’s dominated by foreigners that include a very large high yielding web booked in guests. He said that the tree house dining, water sports, pool table, free Wifi, sumptuous food, personalize service of the 73 staff including veterans in the field with over 35 years experience overseas and the scenic location are some of its key selling points.
The hotel has also tied up with a Kuwait company to introduce and international spa which would be one of its kind in Sri Lanka. (SS)
