SL Tourism launches Lanka Challenge

Sri Lanka Tourism yesterday launched Lanka Challenge 2015, an 11 day Tuk Tuk adventure, held across Sri Lanka from September 4-14, 2015 for the seventh consecutive year.

Organized by large Minority in partnership with Conniassance De Ceylan and Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism, the Lanka Challenge will see the participation of 35 intrepid travellers representing Australia, The USA, Denmark, UAE, New Zealand, Netherlands, France and etc….

The event will comprise of 15 teams and the participants will have the chance to explore natural and historical places in Sri Lanka, specially the Eastern province, adventurous, and less travelled territory –where participants can expect even more remote, scenic and challenging roads. The entire event will cover over 1,200 Km across the country.

Larger Minority, Co- Founder Julian Carnell, addressing the media in Colombo said, “We hope to once again captivate the world through responsible tourism initiative ‘Lanka Challenge’. This year we’re planning to launch another two different programs while introducing two different routes. But programs will be designed by following the similar format. The participants will also gain points by doing certain tasks and challenges.”

“The global adventure tourism is on the rise, according international tourism industry data, the industry is worth US$ 263 Billion annually. We are happy to be a part of this initiative and I’m hopeful that Sri Lankan adventure tourism sector will grow consistently in the foreseeable future,” Carnell said.

Lanka Challenge team will also continue to support its local partners, the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka and Land Owner Restore Rainforest in Sri Lanka (LORRIS).

A total of 10 percent of each team’s entry fee will be given directly to the charity partners.

According to Carnell, last year, Lanka Challenge team collected over US$ 8,000 which we used for different charitable projects. In 2105, Lanka Challenge teams intend to raise a very similar amount and touch many more lives through our sustainable initiatives.

David Peiris Motor Company and Srilankan Airlines come as the main sponsors for this year Lanka Challenge event.
