Fulfilling the pledge made by SLCB to outstation hoteliers to offer MICE tourism training, especially in the area of incentive travel which deals with up market clientele, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau carried out a Regional Tourism and MICE Training Program in Passekudah. The sessions were conducted by two industry experts Paddy Paul and Felicia Adhihetty, and two officials of SLCB Vipula Wanigasekera and Iyroshi Jayawardene.

Each speaker covered specialised areas of MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions) followed by a group study and presentation. This was an initiative taken by SLCB towards maintenance of professional standards and promoting the development of professional skills of those involved in MICE tourism and the hospitality industry, to ensure that hoteliers recognise the special attributes required in serving the MICE tourism segment that could increase the tourism revenue into the country. Having conducted five regional training programs in Negambo, Kalutara, Dambulla, Kandy and Jaffna in 2013, planning is now underway to conduct four more training programs outside Colombo covering the Southern province and North central province.
