Sri Lanka is witnessing a flourishing Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) market and the island will host a record 60 events in 2014.
Speaking to Daily News Business Chairman Sri Lanka Conventions Bureau, Vipula Wanigasekara said last year Sri Lanka hosted 113 events and in 2012 the island played host to 28 conventions. He said that last year the MICE segment accounted to over US$ 160 million revenue. “This year our target is US$ 200 million”.
He said that they are also high spenders accounting to around US$400 per day as against US$ 150 spent by leisure travellers.
