Sri Pada season 2014/2015 commences today with the dawn of Unduwap Full Moon Poya Day and will continue till Vesak Full Moon Poya in May 2015. The government has carried out several development projects in the Sri Pada route and in the Sri Padasthana to provide facilities to pilgrims, Department of Government Information said.

The Police have cautioned the pilgrims to avoid bathing in streams and rivers in the area as several deaths were reported during the last season. The pilgrims are advised to refrain from consuming alcohol and narcotics and to avoid taking plastic and polythene to the peak.

The casket of relics and the statue of Sumana Saman deity will be taken in a motorcade from the Galpottawala Sri Pada Rajamaha Vihara to the Nallathanniya Sri Pada Dharma Centre on Sunday (Dec.7)
