Standard International opening Maldives resort

Standard International will open a Maldives resort this fall, the brand’s first resort in Asia and its second property outside of the U.S.

Situated on an island and accessible via seaplane from Male, the 115-villa Standard Huruvalhi Maldives will offer a Maldives vacation with a Standard approach, such as nightlife options including “tribal beats at a beach bonfire,” a glass-bottom nightclub and “a disco ball above your bath tub, for your own private party.”

Standard said that while the Maldives has traditionally been a couple’s destination, its resort will offer a “combination of relaxation, social life and vibrant cultural programming that welcomes groups of friends or singles looking to meet others or just reset and recharge in paradise.”

Among the six culinary offerings will be a beachfront shack serving seafood and a restaurant serving Maldivian cuisine, showcasing ingredients sourced from an on-island farm.

Each villa will have a private lounge deck and plunge pool. Activities will include guided diving and snorkeling, boat excursions, night fishing and private destination dining.

The Standard Spa will have a communal hammam, aroma steam room, daily yoga, personal training and nine private treatment rooms.

Standard is in the midst of major expansion and opened its first non-U.S. hotel in July in London. Housed in the former Camden Town Hall Annex, a 1974 Brutalist structure overlooking King’s Cross, the 266-room hotel was the first in a global pipeline that includes Milan, Paris, Lisbon, Bordeaux, Mexico City, Koh Samui, Phuket and Hua Hin.
